RE: ALBERTA RACETRACKS REQUIRED PRE-ARRIVAL DOCUMENTATION
To ensure the health and safety of all horses entering Alberta racetracks, we would like to remind you of the required pre-arrival documentation.
Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) Overview
There is currently no cure or vaccine for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA), and the risk of its transmission must be carefully managed. As part of our commitment to minimizing this risk, all horses must present a valid, negative Coggins test before entering any racetrack property in Alberta.
The pre-arrival documentation is a procedure that aims to ensure the safety and welfare of horses, as well as to mitigate risk to the Alberta horse racing industry.
- 48-hour Communication Requirement: Submit all horses’ names and approximate times of arrival 48 hours before arrival. We have developed a simple online form to assist: https://form.jotform.com/242995186412060
- Current Coggins Test: Ensure the horse has a valid negative Coggins test on file with both the race office and Horse Racing Alberta Regulatory 48 hours before arrival. This is mandatory for entry. All horses on your application to ship in will be checked in advance for negative Coggins. A current Coggins test is proof of a negative test for Equine Infectious Anemia dated in the preceding 12 months (365 days).
- Denied Entry: Failure to produce a current negative Coggins test before arrival or at the time of arrival, either electronically or with a physical copy in hand will result in being denied entry to the racetrack. For any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
