Directive No. 158-2020 — Standardbred

The Rules Governing Horse Racing in Alberta are AMENDED as follows:

Chapter 3: General Horse Racing Rules, Part 6 Standardbred Racing, Division 6 Racing Rules

The following Rule 451 s is AMENDED to read:

Rule 451 s Action after recall

In case of a recall, a light visible to the drivers shall be flashed and a recall sounded. If possible, the starter shall leave the wings of the starting gate open and gradually slow the speed of the gate to assist in stopping and turning the field. Drivers shall take up their horses and return, without delay, to the point where fields are gathered for the start.

There shall be no recall after the horses have been released by the starter .

Rule 451 s Action after recall previously stated:

(1) In the case of a recall,

(a) a light, plainly visible to the drivers, must be flashed and a recall sounded,

(b) if possible, the starter must leave the wings of the starting gate open and gradually slow the speed of the gate to assist in stopping and turning the field, and

(c) drivers must take up their horses and return, without delay, to the point where the field is gathered for starts.

(2) There is to be no recall after the word "go" has been given to signal a fair start.
