Blatler Family all smiles at Evergreen Park

Trainer Codi Blatler Trainer Codi Blatler

One would be hard pressed to find two happier people at Evergreen Park, than trainer Codi Blatlet, and her mom,  Casandra.

Codi Blatler has spent the last four years working as a groom and assistant trainer for the legendary Lyle Magnuson, who was almost a guarantee to be leading trainer in Lethbridge when he trained there. With reduced days of racing on the B circuit this year, Lyle decided to stay in the United States and Codi Blatler decided she was ready to expand her operation. She had trained a couple of horses in the past, in addition to working for Magnuson, but this year she has expanded her operation to six horses.

She is in partnership with her mom, Casandra Blatler, who has been involved in horse racing for years. A mare by the name of "Pretty Dark Rose" is Casandra's pride and joy and the mare recently won an allowance race at Evergreen Park. Their other superstar is, "Been to Spain", who recently won a stakes race at Evergreen Park. Codi and Casandra are on the prowl for a couple of more horses. Codi also trains for Eddie Esquirol from Saskatoon, who sent his horses to Alberta to run, as Saskatoon cancelled their horse racing this year.

Codi says she loves the family atmosphere of the B track circuit, but will in all likelihood move to the A track in the not-to-distant future and ultimately hopes to race in Canada's A tracks and then off to the United States. She says with a laugh, that if it doesn't work out, she can always come home to Grande Prairie and I can guarantee you that Grande Prairie will be happy to have her come back.

Handles at Evergreen Park continue to grow this year and there are fourteen races this weekend, with six on Saturday and eight on Sunday. Post time each day is 1:15. See you at the races.
