Toronto, Ontario –The Jockey Club of Canada held its 39th Annual Sovereign Awards Party this evening on the elegantly transformed third floor of Woodbine Race Track in Toronto, Ontario Canada.
More than 300 guests attended the event to celebrate with the finalists and newly crowned champions of Thoroughbred racing in Canada for 2013.
The Sovereign Awards are Canada’s premier awards for Thoroughbred Racing and Breeding with both the owner and breeder of each Champion horse being recognized with a Sovereign Award Trophy for first time winners or a Gold Sovereign Coin for those who have won a trophy previously.

CALGARY, Alberta – United Horsemen of Alberta and Century Casinos announced today they will be building a racetrack and casino.
The project, which will be called “Century Downs Racetrack and Casino,” will be the only horse racetrack in the Calgary area and will consist of a 5.5 furlongs (0.7 miles) racetrack and a casino, including a gaming floor offering 550 gaming machines, a bar, a lounge, restaurant facilities and an off-track betting area.

The graduating class of the 2013 Olds College - Horse Racing Alberta Racetrack Programs took over the Paddock Theatre at Northlands Park on Monday afternoon.
Both Mara Coote-Freeman and Sarai Danby welcomed guests to the event, with Jim Haggan taking to the podium to say grace before a fabulous meal.
Coote-Freeman acted as the event emcee and began with a huge thank you to Groom School instructors Theresa Sealy, Deb MacLeod and Kathy Bueler. Exercise Rider instructors Nancy Huston, Twylla Bensmiller and fitness guru Rebecca 'Becky' Neergaard, plus a host of others, were also acknowledged for their hard work in looking after the students this year.
Licensing office hours starting April 26, 2013 will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. UNTIL the end of June, 2013.
