The stellar performance of the track crew helped opening day go despite heavy rains. The track crew gave their all and the normal stellar condition of Evergreen Park paid off as all seven races ran on opening day.

The highlight of opening day was the Alberta Community Thoroughbred Racing Association's Stakes Race for fillies & mares. The Garry Marks-trained," Lady Amelia", pulled off an exciting victory, edging out the Allan Brown-trained, "Go She's Italian".

On Sunday, a huge crowd greeted Evergreen Park on a beautiful sunny day and they were rewarded with some outstanding racing.

The Alberta Community Thoroughbred Racing Association sponsored an Alberta Bred race for Colts and Geldings and the Allan Brown-trained, "Polka Dot River", pulled off an upset victory edging out long shot, "Gallant Gabe", trained by veteran trainer, Pete Dubois.

In the Spring Sprint Stakes Race, the amazing, "General Day" won his seventh race in a row. "General Day", who is trained by Lyle Magnuson, has been outstanding this year and last year and is one of the top horses on the community circuit. Nellie Pigeau gave it a game effort with, "Naomi's Gift", but to no avail.

Live racing action resumes next weekend with three days of live racing action, Friday and Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

See you at the races.
