Saturday afternoon features 11 dashes on tap at Northlands and I'm leaning towards a known closer as my 'Play of the Day'. Be One, owned by Jamie Gray and Grant Noll, tried it against straight $10,000 claimers last week and although I believe he did fit the class OK, the pace just didn't help his chances whatsoever. Sired by Red River Hanover, from the Matts Scooter mare Brianna, this four-year-old gelding was a $15,000 yearling purchase at the 2007 ASHA Sale and has four wins to his credit from just 18 lifetime starts. I do know that Jamie was quite high on this fella during his three-year-old campaign, but with the likes of Sixdaysontheroad, Wrangler Hitech and Red Riverboat to go up against in open stakes action, Be One was a little bit out of his league when he came across them in the $57,500 Brad Gunn Stake in December. Race 8 features a group of NW $28,000 Lifetime (AB Sired $34,000) $15,000 claimers. Be One has faced this group twice already this year, finishing second and fourth, and was always showing great late kick at the end. This race sets up for him. Morning line favorite H F Thanks Will (2-1) has drawn the outside post and I believe you'll see him moving early, to press the pace, setting it up for the closers. With known speedsters Everybodydance (4-1) - on the rail, and Oakridge Mac Tay (3-1) - leaving the center of the gate, I'm just thinking the speed will come back to the closers setting up for a thrilling stretch drive. Look for both #5 Be One (5-1) and #6 Steveofdestruction (6-1) to be picking up the pieces late in this one. Try them in the triactor with a 56/56/all and 56/all/56 at a cost of $20. See you at the races! -copyright thehorses.com |
