Starring Role - the public's horse during the Northlands Park harness meet in Edmonton - has made it two victories in a row.

The five-year-old mare captured Friday's $10,500 feature race by four lengths in 1:54.4. The win brought a $5,250 pay cheque - meaning the three fans who have free ownership shares keeping collecting cash.

Bill Andrew - a prominent harness owner in Alberta - donated his 50% share of the mare to the public at the start of February. A large contest on opening weekend led to three fans being given free ownership shares. Each lucky fan has a 13.3% share of Starring Role.

Making the contest even better for the fans, Andrew agreed to pay all the bills on the mare. So, the fans just collect pay cheques. (The 100% ownership picture: trainer Dan Sifert has 50%, three lucky fans hold a combined 39.9% and 10.1% is being held to cover any unexpected vet bills.)

The victory on Friday means Starring Role has earned $12,090 from four starts this year. For each fan, that translates to a $1,608 cheque after one month of the meet.

Sifert indicated before Friday's race that he has no plans to give the mare a rest. Providing she is healthy, expect the public's horse to be entered next weekend - in search of three straight wins.
