A 31-day harness meet starts Friday in Edmonton, with an estimated $1.7 million in purses. The Northlands Park campaign stretches to April 11. "There is some good quality (for opening night)," said Northlands Park race office assistant Jason Teague. "In a perfect world, we want 10 or 11 races a day." There are 10 races for Friday - 6 p.m. post time. An estimated $1.7 million will be available in purses during the short 10-week meet. According to ASHA manager Fred Gillis: "$52,000 per day (in purses) is the projected average." That doesn't include $100,000 spread across two three-year-old stakes in April. The $50,000 Wild Rose Pace for sophomore fillies (non-restricted) is April 9. The $50,000 Adios Pick for three-year-old colts (non-restricted) is April 10. ![]() Keith Clark - the reigning Alberta harness horseman of the year - will not drive on opening weekend. "I will be back on the 15th (of February)," remarked Clark, who will drive this weekend at Fraser Downs in Vancouver. Clark estimates having 20 to 30 horses in his Northlands Park stable by the middle of this month. Armbro Dublin - who is racing in Vancouver's top class on Friday - will be part of the Edmonton stable later this month. The Northlands Park meet will operate on a three-day per week rotation of Friday (6 p.m. post time), Saturday (1 p.m. post), Sunday (1 p.m. post).
