I am 19 years old and I would like a future career in the dental or health industry.
Being a Derby model has been one of the best experiences in my life so far. I have met so many great people who share many of the same interests as myself, and have gotten to learn so much more about the Derby. It has been so cool getting to see what really goes on behind the races.
Something interesting about me is that I danced on a cruise ship when I was 16, and it was definitely a great experience!

I am 36 years old and a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
I’m currently employed as a fraud investigator and love my job! I enjoy being involved with the Derby because I love the excitement of the races and all of the great people I have met.
In my spare time, I enjoy attending concerts, traveling, running, volunteering and spending time with my 20 month old son.

My name is Karalee and I am 19 years old. What a thrill to have been chosen as one of the 12 Derby girls.
I love horses and have had the great opportunity to visit the barns where the horses are kept, learn about the Backstretch Trust Fund charity, the races, and be behind the scenes.
I am having a great time!

My name is Taylor, I am 24 years old and from Edmonton. I am currently driving a dump truck for my family’s landscaping business which is really fun and a great way to get a tan. In the winter I attend university and love to vacation in Mexico with my husband.
I am really excited for the Derby this year, everyone at Northlands has been extremely helpful and this whole experience has been a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends.
I love supporting our city’s great events and I hope to see you there.

I am 20 years old and have been singing since the age of four and has also been modeling since the age of twelve. I have traveled around the world with both modeling and singing.
I attended the Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts High School and plan to take the music program at Grant MacEwan College in September of next year.
I love horses and have been riding my whole life. I am very excited to take part in this year’s Derby and I’m sure it will be an amazing experience.

My name is Lise and I am 29. I remember going to the horse races at an early age. Going to the races was a family event. I continued to be attracted to all of the excitement, especially the splendour of the horses.
After graduating from M.E. Lazerte High School, I later graduated from the University of Alberta, with a business degree.
I am grateful the opportunity opened up for me to become a Derby model. I love being part of the Canadian Derby, a fascinating national event.

I am 24 years old and currently enrolled in third year of the Mechanical Engineering Bachelor degree program at the University of Alberta.
I have a wonderful job at an engineering firm here in Edmonton where I will be returning next summer, and it is my intention to join this company once I have finished my degree. Being involved in the Derby is important to me because horses are extremely important to me.
I have eight years of competitive jumping experience. Some of my other hobbies include playing classical piano, woodworking, leather crafting, glass art, writing poetry, and dancing.

I am 18-years-old and have just completed my first year of university. My goal is to obtain my science degree in order to pursue a career in dentistry.
My hobbies include quadding, snowmobiling, boating and spending time with my golden retriever. Being a derby girl has given me the opportunity to meet new people and I have enjoyed getting to know many of the other contestants.
I grew up on a farm outside of Edmonton and have been riding horses my entire life, so, it is very exciting for me to spend time at Northlands Park.

I am 18-years-old from Slave Lake and will be attending my second year of college in Red Deer this fall, working toward a bachelor of elementary education. When I am done school I plan to be a successful teacher and I hope to travel and live my life to the fullest.
I enjoy camping, going to the beach, hanging with friends and believe it or not... hunting. When I was 16-years-old I shot my first 42" bull moose!
I am extremely out-going and love to have fun. I enjoy being a derby girl because I am a people person and I am always up for learning and experiencing new things.

My name is Ashley, I am 19 years old from Edmonton. I am currently working towards my degree in Journalism. Some future aspirations of mine include becoming a successful Journalist or Television Reporter.
Being a Derby Model is very rewarding because I have had the privilege of being chosen to represent Northlands for the Canadian Derby.
I am skilled in competitive ballet, equestrian and native dancing (jingle). I am fluent in Spanish, English and Cree.

My name is Amanda and I was born and raised here in Edmonton. I’m 20 years old and am thrilled to be a part of this season’s Canadian Derby hosted at Northlands Park.
I’ve had the pleasure of learning the history and culture of the Canadian Derby and, of course, how to make a play on a winning horse! I am grateful to have had the opportunity of learning poise, elegance, refinement and polish.
I enjoy being a Derby model because it allows me to represent my city as well as a piece of community history.
