Known For Their Speed

The Quarter Horse races down a straight track at speeds of up to 41 miles per hour, That's right! 41 miles per hour an hour!

Similar to thoroughbred racing, a jockey skillfully guides the Quarter Horse. In earlier years, this breed became well known for it's ability to outmaneuver cattle and for it's calm devoted disposition. Today the breeding has been refined to produce an amazing equine athlete.

Quarter Horse Racing is fast, wild, and incredibly entertaining. Quarter Horses can also be found performing in rodeo events such as roping and barrel racing. This breed also can be seen in dressage and show-jumping events.

History

Dash For Cash
The Quarter Horse evolved out of a melding of various breeds brought to North America. Heavily muscled, this compact horse could run a short distance over a straightaway faster than any other horse. In the 1600s the Quarter Horse evolved to fill English colonists' passion for short-distance racing. In fact, some of the earliest races took place on village streets, country lanes, or level pastures.
